A big storm brought high winds and lots of rain to Castine and Penobscot on Thursday, February 25. Those towns escaped some of the stronger winds felt in Deer Isle, Stonington and Brooklin, where thousands of trees fell victim to hurricane force gusts and some people were still without power on Monday, March 1. Locally, a number of trees fell victim. This tall spruce on Battle Avenue near the The Manor simply could not take the force of the wind, splitting down the trunk and falling on a nearby rock wall.
